Through Tua Tagovailoa’s first six NFL games, the former Alabama quarterback had yet to throw an interception. That changed in his seventh career game on Sunday. And not only that, but he was picked off by another former SEC star.

Tagovailoa was intercepted in the second quarter of the Miami Dolphins’ home matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. His pass, which was intended for wide receiver Jakeem Grant in double coverage, ended up in the hands of Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu, a former LSU standout.

Things weren’t all bad for Tagovailoa in the first half, though. He also threw a touchdown pass (the eighth of his rookie season) to tight end Mike Gesicki in the first quarter for the first score of the game.

Mathieu, who played at LSU from 2010-11 and is now in his eighth NFL season, has been on a tear lately, as he has four interceptions over Kansas City’s past three games.

After Mathieu’s interception of Tagovailoa, the Chiefs went ahead, 14-10, on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce, giving Kansas City the lead at halftime.
