Thank goodness Alabama’s ability to win games doesn’t hinge on their fans’ ability to pronounce the name of their quarterback.

While Tua Tagovailoa helped lead the Crimson Tide to a national title last season, it doesn’t appear the southern accent lends itself to saying his name correctly.

Fans at SEC Media Days know they love their team, but they certainly second-guessed themselves on pronunciation to the point where some even refused to say it for fear of messing it up. Bo Mattingly of Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly posted the following video of Alabama fans struggling to handle the task at hand:

The answers ranged far and wide in ways you might not even know Tagovailoa could be pronounced.

“Tavala- I don’t know” “Tungaviola” “Tagviolova” “Tugvala” “Tagliavoa”  and “The Big T” were just a few submissions as fans who dared to take the challenge tried to untwist their tongue.

Other highlights included the fan wearing a Tagovailoa jersey who couldn’t say the name right and the fan who reasoned he said it correctly because he was Hawaiian.

It just goes to show how much effort announcers have to put in to try and say it correctly every time. It’s definitely not easy and these Crimson Tide faithful deserve a pat on the back for trying.
