PTI co-hosts took on the latest debate around Alabama football, and whether the Crimson Tide’s dominance, this season, and over the last several years, is good or bad for college football.

Tony Kornheiser noted that QB Tua Tagovailoa played into the fourth quarter for the first time this season, threw his first interception and still doubled the betting line during the 29-0 win at LSU.

“It’s good,” Michael Wilbon said. “All great teams are good for their respective sports, and it doesn’t mean Alabama’s going to win.”

Wilbon went on to outline other dominant teams, such as the Golden State Warriors when they won 73 games in the regular season, but ultimately lost in the NBA Finals. He also mentioned the New England Patriots going undefeated in the regular season, and then they lost to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl.

“Alabama has been in a position before where they went in as a clear favorite, didn’t win,” Wilbon added. “… So a lot of times, Tony, where we’ve seen teams on the verge of greatness not come through, and that’s the drama of the season. It’s great that Alabama’s doing this, and LSU’s ain’t that good.”

Kornheiser raised the point that Alabama will play 13 or 14 games, so a lot of teams will get a shot at them.

“I look at Alabama, I think they’re a great team right now,” he said. “… When Tua threw the pick, I actually jumped up and goes, ‘Wow, I don’t think he’s been picked all year.’ Within five seconds, the announcer said, ‘And he hasn’t been picked all year,’ because he’s been that good. They’ve been that good. I like them.”

Kornheiser added that he’d like to see Alabama against Clemson or Notre Dame. Wilbon said Notre Dame is really good, but he’s not sure if it’s great.

“Clemson looks like they may have greatness in them, and so therefore, we’d like to see those two meet,” Wilbon said. “Maybe Michigan, I think is going to beat Ohio State, but I don’t know if they have greatness in them.”
