Arkansas put together a solid season in 2016.

Its offense was led by the productive duo of Brandon Allen and Alex Collins.

The Razorbacks’ rushing defense ranked 12th in the country, holding Derrick Henry and Leonard Fournette to less than 100 yards.

But Arkansas still felt short in a few areas, finishing with a 8-5 record.

Here are 5 ways the Razorbacks need to improve in 2016.

1. Major help in the secondary: Arkansas finished 110th in the nation against the pass. The Razorbacks allowed 275 yards through the air per game. Mississippi State had more than 500 yards through the air against Arkansas and three other teams had more than 250 yards passing. The Razorbacks need significant upgrades in the secondary to get over the hump and make a run in the SEC West.

2. Win the close games: Of the Razorbacks’ five losses, four were decided by 10 points or less. The only exception was against Alabama, which beat Arkansas, 27-14. In 2015, Bret Bielema’s team could hang close with any team in the country. The next step is to win those close games.

3. Replacing Allen and Collins: This may not technically be an improvement. But it’s no secret that Arkansas faces a challenge trying to replace Allen and Collins. Allen ranked first in the NCAA in total QBR. He finished the season with 3,440 yards, 30 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. Collins rushed for 1,577 yards and 20 TDs. Both players will be hard to replace.

4. Keep adding big recruits: With the Razorbacks’ current success comes a spike in recruiting. They currently rank 9th in the SEC in recruiting and 25th in the country. Those rankings aren’t earth shattering, but given the competition, Bielema has his team in good position. The Razorbacks’ highest-rated commit is four-star DE McTelvin Agim. They also have a commitment from four-star RB Devwah Whaley, the highest-rated rusher Bielema has recruited in his three seasons. Arkansas needs to keep adding top talent.

5. Make the pass rush dominant: It’s hard to criticize the Arkansas front seven because it put together a great year. But in 2016, the Razorbacks have a chance to make the jump from good to dominant. They had 20 sacks this season and are only losing one defensive linemen.
