Anthony Black continues to rise up draft boards as the 2023 NBA Draft approaches.

On Thursday, ESPN updated its mock draft to include the latest intel from around the league.

Black has spent most of the pre-draft cycle being linked to the Washington Wizards at No. 8 overall. However, ESPN’s most recent mock from Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo projects Black to be picked No. 6 by the Orlando Magic.

The switch is mostly caused by the expected fall of Villanova forward Cam Whitmore. Once thought to be a top-5 pick, ESPN is projecting the Detroit Pistons to select Ausar Thompson at No. 5 overall. That moves Orlando, in need of a guard, to Black at No. 6.

Here’s an excerpt of analysis from Woo:

The Magic have explored moving around in the draft but will have a difficult choice to make if they stay put, particularly if the Rockets and Pistons opt to pass on Whitmore and send him down into the next part of the lottery. Provided his jumper comes along, Black could be an excellent fit with what the Magic already have, giving them a connective player and versatile defender to accentuate the young talent already in place

Black is considered to be one of the top playmakers and perimeter defenders in this draft class. He’s coming off of an impressive freshman season at Arkansas and will likely be one of the first college players selected.

He would join an Orlando core that also includes forwards Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. Black would likely slot into Orlando’s starting back court alongside Markelle Fultz in 2023-24.

Arkansas guard Nick Smith Jr. is projected to be picked No. 22 overall to the Brooklyn Nets in ESPN’s latest mock. Jordan Walsh landed at No. 41 overall to the Charlotte Hornets.

The NBA Draft begins at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday night.
