The Arkansas Razorbacks hired Sam Pittman as their new head coach this offseason after parting ways with Chad Morris.

However, in a piece by Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger this week, it was revealed that AD Hunter Yurachek also spoke with NFL legend Deion Sanders about the job.

Per the article, Yurachek said he liked what he saw in Sanders, but didn’t think the SEC was the right place for him to start his head coaching career:

“I was thoroughly impressed with Deion,” Yurachek says. “I didn’t think this was the right starting point for him as a collegiate head coach in the SEC, but I think Jackson State is a great landing spot. Some are going to say this is a publicity stunt. Yes, it’s going to sell more tickets, but the time I was able to visit with Deion, he knows football.”

Sanders has built plenty of excitement around the Jackson State program in the short time since he was hired.

Could he eventually end up in the SEC, or at a Power 5 school (perhaps his alma mater, Florida State)? We’ll see how Year 1 goes for him at his new job.
