Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman saw his defensive back depth diminished a little on Thursday, as veteran safety Zach Zimos has entered the tranfer portal, according to 247Sports.

Zimos, a redshirt junior from Sugar Land, Texas, appeared in 8 games for the Razorbacks this season, with most of his action coming on special teams. He was on the field for a pair of defensive snaps during the Missouri State game in Week 3, which turned out to be a 38-27 victory that improved the Hogs’ record to 3-0.

Zimos arrived in Fayetteville as only a 3-star linebacker prospect in the Class of 2019. He was the 38th-ranked linebacker prospect in the class and was ranked No. 571 overall, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Zimos appeared in 4 games as a true freshman but did not record any statistics. He didn’t appear in any games as a redshirt freshman during the shortened 2020 season.

Zimos then switched positions, moving to safety during the following offseason. But he only saw action in 2 games during the 2021 season without recording any statistics.

Zimos chose to play at Arkansas over fellow SEC school Missouri, as well as California, Purdue, Texas Tech and Boise State, among others.

Now he’s reportedly choosing to play somewhere other than Fayetteville.
