Arkansas landed what was described as a surprise commitment on Friday when 2023 recruit Shamar Easter made his commitment to the Razorbacks.

Easter is the No. 7 rated tight end in the class, and the No. 1 player in the state of Arkansas, according to the 247Sports Composite. He is listed at 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds. The Ashdown, Arkansas native has a reported 11 offers.

Hawg Beat reported that Easter was strongly considering offers from out of state. Among those were Clemson, which expected to offer soon, along with Arizona State, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

This is Arkansas’ first commitment from the 2023 class, and the tight end position is increasingly thin. Blake Kern is expected to leave after this season, while Hudson Henry would be a fifth-year senior by the time Easter gets to campus. Others include redshirt freshman Collin Sutherland, true freshman Erin Outley and 2022 commitments Dax Courtney and Tyrus Washington.
