Barry Odom has developed a strong reputation as a top-shelf defensive coordinator in the SEC, and the Arkansas assistant appears happy with the Razorbacks.

He spoke to reporters about why he likes coaching at Arkansas, and with Sam Pittman. The former Missouri head coach has led the Razorbacks to a steady improvement on defense. Odom’s defense in 2021 allowed 22.9 points per game – 12 fewer points per game than in 2020 and the fewest for an Arkansas defense since 2014 – and allowed 84 fewer yards of total defense.

Odom said there’s value in building a program like he did when he came aboard with Pittman.

“I love it here. I love the state of Arkansas,” Odom said. “This university means something to me…It’s fun to come to work everyday and I think that we’re building something that is going to be sustainable for a long, long time.”

Odom said Arkansas has great leadership, and he enjoys working with Pittman.

“Not only do I think he’s a great leader, he’s a terrific leader of men, and he’s a great representative of our program,” Odom said. “I don’t need to go take a job just to say I’m going to take another one. I’m happy with where I’m at, I love coaching the defense. I really like our staff.”
