On Monday, Arkansas wide receiver Jonathan Nance announced his decision to leave Arkansas and redshirt this season.

Nance, who was the Razorbacks’ leading receiver in 2017, plans to transfer to a different school later this year.

“Jonathan Nance has chosen to step back from football here at the University of Arkansas and focus on earning his degree,” Morris said at his press conference on Monday. “And we want to wish him the best of luck. He came to me and we had a great discussion yesterday. I think when you look at the redshirt rule, I think this is part of the rule that I don’t think anyone intended seeing it come like that. …

“You don’t ever want anyone to leave your program. But if that’s what he felt was in the best interest for him, we want to wish him the best of luck.”

Nance had 37 receptions for 539 yards and five touchdowns in 2017. This season, he had one catch for minus-two yards.

Who will get increased playing time with Nance’s departure? Razorbacks offensive coordinator Joe Craddock addressed that when he met with the media on Monday.

“We are going to put Deon Stewart there at the start, and Jordan Jones will be right behind him as the starting rotation guys and move forward from there,” Craddock told the media. “It was Jonathan’s decision to move on and we wish him the best, and we’ve got to move forward.”
