Hagen Smith had a remarkable start against No. 7 Oregon State at Globe Life Field on Friday night.

Smith struck out 17 batters in 6 innings of work before being pulled, tying the program record for a single game. He had 15 strikeouts through 5 innings, but the Razorbacks finally recorded an out in the field in Smith’s 6th and final frame.

Perhaps most impressively, Smith used only 78 pitches to get through those 6 innings of work with 17 strikeouts. He also scattered 3 hits and 1 walk during his start against the Beavers.

Here are some highlights from Smith’s incredible night on the mound:

This was Smith’s second start of the year. His first appearance didn’t go nearly as well — he was pulled after just 1 inning after he allowed 3 earned runs and walked a pair.

Smith has historically been a strikeout-heavy pitcher. Last season, Smith led Arkansas with a 3.64 ERA and struck out 109 batters in just 71.2 innings.

This is a rematch of the 2018 College World Series championship series, which the Beavers won. This is a big weekend for the Razorbacks, who are hoping to establish themselves as one of the nation’s best teams in the early going. The Razorbacks are off to a 3-1 start this season after their season-opening series vs. James Madison.

Smith exited the game with Arkansas in front of Oregon State 4-0 entering the 7th inning on Friday night.
