Here are some quick thoughts on Arkansas’ 24-20 win at Tennessee.

What it means: Both teams have plenty of work to do, but at least Arkansas has the chance to right the ship this season. One of these disappointing teams had to win tonight, but it doesn’t mean Arkansas isn’t without problems. The game was sloppy by both teams, with plenty of questionable play-calling to keep things interesting, but Bret Bielema’s system finally came together for an important win. Meanwhile, Butch Jones and Tennessee have managed to find a new low in 2015.

What I liked: Brandon Allen’s play outside of the pocket. “Mobile” isn’t the first word that comes to mind when thinking of the Arkansas quarterback, but Allen was very effective on bootleg throws as well as when scrambling to extend a drive. Allen still had some accuracy issues, especially in the red zone, but his mobility was a good sign in his growth.

What I didn’t likeTennessee’s receivers. It’s hard to believe that the Vols used to churn out so many good wideouts because this current crop had a ton of drops in this game. The Vols didn’t make it easy for QB Josh Dobbs.

Who’s the man: Alex Collins. While other running backs in the SEC (read: Leonard Fournette and Nick Chubb) have been getting all the praise, Collins has finally risen to the level required to carry the Razorbacks following the injury of Jonathan Williams. The Vols had trouble wrapping Collins up, with the junior getting a lot of yards after contact en route to his game-high 154 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Razorbacks fans are finally seeing Collins rise to the potential he revealed his freshman year.

Key play: Chris Hedlund’s game-tying field goal to end the first half. That entire drive was methodical for the Razorbacks, who didn’t seem rattled after Tennessee’s opening kickoff return for a touchdown but hadn’t put together a particularly dominating drive until the end of the first half. While Arkansas only had time for a field goal, the kick tied the game and helped shift momentum for the Razorbacks in the second half.

What’s next: The Razorbacks get back to division play next week when they travel to Tuscaloosa to play a reinvigorated Alabama team. Tennessee hosts the Georgia Bulldogs, who were destroyed by the Crimson Tide and will be looking to take it out on the Vols in order to regain their grip on the SEC East.
