Tommy Tuberville has made no secret of his interest in returning to to a leadership role on a college campus.

That includes the now open athletics director job at Arkansas, Football Scoop reported, where there is a “legit backing” among several key players in Fayetteville.

“It would be interesting to watch Tubs attempt to successfully make the move from one chair to the other along the lines of Barry Alvarez or Tom Osborne,” the report said, referring to the former Wisconsin and Nebraska coaches.

Tuberville is currently a game analyst with ESPN.

What’s less clear is how a possible Tuberville-led athletics department would handle the expected pending football coach hire. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn has received plenty of recent attention about the possible opening if Bret Bielema is let go.

“Presumably Tuberville could get on board with a Gus hire if Gus were available (and would support Gus fully, I’m sure),” the Football Scoop report said. “If Gus weren’t available, the thinking in the profession is Tubs (& presumably other candidates) would like to hire a known Arkansas quantity from the upper echelon of the profession.”
