Ryan McGee had high praise for Sam Pittman as many question if the end is near for his tenure at Arkansas.

Pittman’s Razorbacks have had a disappointing season this year, and it’s led to many fans questioning if it’s time for a new coach. On Monday, McGee sat down with Little Rock Touchdown Club to discuss Pittman’s future.

The ESPN senior writer expressed how Pittman has helped turn things around for Arkansas, and if he does end up getting fired, fans need to give him his flowers.

“My big thing is, I want him to get the exit that he deserves,” McGee said. “I understand that this season has been a disappointment, there’s no question about it. This just happens… I think that everyone that supports Woo Pig needs to appreciate what he did.”

McGee also spoke highly of Pittman’s character, explaining the coach’s down to earth demeanor that made him a fan favorite around the SEC.

“No one has been better than Sam. He is who he is,” McGee said. “All I want from a human being is just be who you are. Be you, don’t be fake. All that turning up the jukebox, drinking the beer, that’s who he is.”

McGee thinks Pittman deserves another year. While this has been a disappointing season, McGee believes good things are coming if Pittman is awarded another season at the helm.

“If there is another year, no one’s going to work harder than he is,” McGee said. “And you can’t question his intent, you can’t question his work ethic.”
