Sam Pittman and an Arkansas team representative have set the record straight about a media narrative surrounding his job security.

A report from ESPN analyst Rod Gilmore during the broadcast of the win over FIU on Saturday detailed that Pittman had a meeting with Athletics Director Hunter Yuracheck discussed Pittman’s job security.

“I don’t remember having that conversation with those guys,” Pittman said. “That’s not for me, that’s Hunter, you guys need to ask him all that kind of stuff. I will say this guys, when we start talking about firing and all this, it kills us in recruiting. Especially when we fabricate stories and put it out, it kills us in recruiting. And when we give opinions about who’s coming in and all those type of things, it kills us.”

Pittman pointed to his wife, who he said was human with her reaction to the conversation. Pittman said he wished the media would focus on facts and not opinions.

“I know it’s an opinion world now,” he said. “I don’t think I’m getting fired, guys, or he would’ve told me I’m fired. I’m not for sure why I have to answer these questions about getting fired or not, but I think I don’t. It will kill recruiting if you keep talking about it and if you’re an Arkansas fan, it’s going to hurt us.”

Mason Choate of Rivals reported that, according to a team rep, the report from Gilmore regarding Pittman’s conversation with Yurachek was not entirely accurate.
