Sam Pittman is taking a step back from recruiting to focus on the team he has now, the Arkansas head coach explained on Wednesday.

Pittman had his coaching staff focus on adjustments and improvements during the bye week rather than putting all of their efforts towards recruiting, and he explained that when the team travels to Florida this week, they won’t be doing much recruiting around the Gainesville area.

“We’re certainly recruiting, but wins have a lot to do, would help you a lot in recruiting and we need to put a great product, we owe it to our kids that’s on the team we’ve got to help them and put a great product on the field,” Pittman said. “A nice team on the field. Especially since we made the change at offensive coordinator, there’s so many things that we have to get right offensively. Defense has to continue to play well, special teams as well. But we’re certainly recruiting, but I did not want to send guys out on the road when we went to Florida. I wanted them with the team because we need to win a game.”

Arkansas is currently dealing with a 6-game losing streak, and the Razorbacks have another tough game against Florida this week. Pittman knows that recruiting only does so much when the team can’t produce wins, so picking up a win is his main priority coming out of the bye week.
