4-star running back J’Marion Burnette is decommitting from Auburn, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Alabama native originally committed to Auburn in March.

Burnette is considered by the 247Sports Composite to be the nation’s No. 18 running back and the No. 14 prospect from Alabama for the Class of 2024. Burnette issued a statement to On3 about his decision.

“I would like to thank the coaching staff at Auburn for allowing me to have an opportunity to play football at the next level. I would especially like to thank Coach Caddy for these past 2 years recruiting me and sticking with me,” Burnette said. “As wonderful as Auburn is, it’s just not the place for me at this time. With that being said, I will be de-committing from Auburn University. Thank you. I love you all! War Eagle!”

Burnette is categorized as having “above average” athleticism at running back by 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Cooper Petagna.

“Flashes above average patience and decisiveness at the line of scrimmage. Exhibits adequate short area burst and explosiveness and is best described as more of a linear build speed runner in the open field,” Petagna said. “Has the shiftiness and suddenness to make the first defender miss in space.”

Meanwhile beyond the recruiting trail, Auburn (4-4, 1-4) will aim for a second consecutive SEC victory when they travel to take on Vanderbilt (2-7, 0-5) this weekend.
