New Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey has considerable ties to the state of Alabama.

A native of Madison, Lindsey originally played football at North Alabama — before transferring to Alabama as a student. He then coached at multiple high schools within the state, including famed institution Hoover.

In 2010, he started his college coaching career at Troy as the quarterbacks coach. Lindsey then moved to Auburn under head coach Gus Malzahn. He proceeded to be an offensive analyst on the 2013 team.

After cutting his teeth at both Southern Miss and Arizona State, Lindsey heads home to further bolster the Tigers’ offense.

Lindsey has over 10 years of high school coaching within the Southeast. This should serve him particularly well in the realm of recruiting. Not only does he have preexisting relationships with many of the programs Auburn will target, but Lindsey’s also garnered respect based upon his personality — as Opelika High School coach Brian Blackmon told AL.com:

“Chip has a tremendous amount of respect from the high school coaches in the state of Alabama. I think I speak for a lot of them in saying that he’s one of us. He’s a great coach and a great person. He’s a tremendously hard worker, very driven and one of the finest quarterback coaches and passing game guys I’ve ever been around. I think immediately the doors are open at high schools across our state when you have a guy that’s one of you.”

With less than two weeks until National Signing Day, Lindsey’s influence and impact might not be clearly seen within this cycle.

A more accurate barometer will be next year — once the offensive coordinator has time to fully acclimate.
