Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson overcame two interceptions Saturday to help the sixth-ranked Tigers beat Jacksonville State in overtime in their home opener.

The preseason Heisman candidate spoke to reporters after the game and seemed confident despite a shaky outing.

On being able to get it done and move forward:

“It felt great and Coach always said we were going to find a way to win. Melvin Ray went up and made a great play and defense got a great stop at the end.”

On Malzahn saying he had bright eyes at the end and wanted to beat this team:

“I just wanted to take it one play at a time and let those guys make a play. That’s what they did for me. Melvin and also Peyton on that third down, he just leaned over to the side and said, ‘Throw it to me’. I believed in him and I just threw the touchdown.”

On possible confidence issues:

“None. All you’ve got to do is just go to the next game and play. That’s football. That’s part of football. All you can do is just learn from your mistakes. Coach Malzahn pushes us to find a way to win and that’s what we did.”
