Auburn is set to face the Big Ten’s Maryland Terrapins in the TransPerfect Music City Bowl in Tampa on New Year’s Day.

ABC will televise the matchup from Nissan Stadium, scheduled for 2p.m. ET on Dec. 30.

The Terrapins got off to a terrific start, winning their first five games. Maryland hadn’t had a better start than that since 2001, when the Terrapins won their first seven games.  However, the Terrapins went on and lost their next four games to fall to 5-4. They gave Michigan all it wanted in Week, losing to the Wolverines, 31-24. The Hoosiers defeated Rutgers, 42-24, to end the season.

These teams have met 3 times before this matchup, with the Auburn Tigers leading the series, 2-1. The last time they met though was in 1983, so it has been a while for these two schools. Coach Mike Locksley has continued to get Maryland back to respectability, as the Terrapins will be entering a bowl for the third straight year.

Auburn will be looking to bounce back for the first time since the devastating loss in the Iron Bowl to Alabama. The Tigers looked to have that game locked up, but gave up a touchdown on 4th and 31 to fall 27-24.
