Bob Stoops responds to rumors connecting him to Auburn job
By Adam Spencer
Published:
Longtime Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops retired from the Sooners before the start of the 2017 season, but his name is constantly brought up for big-name coaching vacancies.
Even though Auburn doesn’t have a head coaching vacancy yet, there are rumors that current coach Gus Malzahn may be on the hot seat.
That report states that Stoops has already been contacted by the Tigers, but on Monday, Stoops took a strong stance when asked about the rumors:
Bob Stoops emphatically denies to @usatodaysports reports Auburn representatives have reached out (or will):
“I haven’t talked to anybody from Auburn. I haven’t met with anybody…nor am I set to talk to anybody. It’s just foolish speculation…that has no basis to it." pic.twitter.com/DkhHRZcGOg— George Schroeder (@GeorgeSchroeder) November 27, 2018
It doesn’t seem like Stoops is eager to come out of retirement, and it wouldn’t make sense for him to connect his name to a job that isn’t even open yet.
We’ll see how things play out at Auburn over the next few weeks, but for now, count Stoops out.
