Cam Newton is once again a free agent this offseason. After going No. 1 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft, Newton spent several years with the Carolina Panthers.

Then, in 2020, he played for the New England Patriots. In 2021, he was back in Carolina on a 1-year deal.

Now, though, his future is uncertain, but according to a report from the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers are interested in bringing Newton back to Carolina if he’s willing to take a lesser role:

The Panthers are open to signing quarterback Cam Newton, but he would not enter camp as the starter, and would have to agree to a smaller salary.

Newton was the MVP of the NFL in 2015, leading the Panthers to an NFC title that year. In 2021, he appeared in 8 games, making 5 starts. He threw for 684 yards, 4 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, adding 230 yards and 5 scores as a runner.
