Cam Newton's brother Caylin Newton announces transfer to Auburn
Auburn football will once again have a “C Newton” on its roster.
Caylin Newton, the younger brother of Tigers great Cam Newton, committed to AU on Friday as a graduate transfer from Howard. He will have two seasons of immediate eligibility.
Caylin was voted on as the MEAC’s preseason player of the year for 2019. News broke in September that Caylin planned to redshirt and preserve a season of eligibility and later transfer for 2020. He announced he would be entering the NCAA’s transfer portal on Oct. 1, 2019.
The 2019 season was Howard’s first with Ron Prince as head coach. Prince reportedly alienated multiple players with his “radio-active, yelling coaching style.” Prince was later placed on administrative leave in November and resigned on Dec. 6, 2019 after the university’s investigation.
In 2018, Caylin threw for 2,629 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also rushed for 504 yards and four touchdowns. He was named the MEAC’s offensive player of the year that season.
In 25 games at Howard, Caylin passed for 5,876 yards, 41 touchdowns and 32 interceptions while rushing for 380 yards and 17 touchdowns. He is known for contributing 140 passing yards and three touchdowns in Howard’s historic upset of UNLV. Howard entered the game as 45-point underdogs.

Wow!!!! Let’s go!!!
41 tds vs 32 picks at HOWARD? If an Auburn fan will take it then I certainly will too..
Nick Marshall has 18 TD’s to 20 Int’s at Garden City CC. He did okay at Auburn.
I’m not saying that Caylin will start AT ALL. But the talent around you can translate to the stat page.
This will make the qb room at least a little competitive. Before it was just Bo Nix
Wonder how Nix is feeling right now. If Newton jumps ahead of him he may transfer.
I seriously doubt either of them happening. Nix is the QB unless he gets hurt. Nix transferring will never happen.
Playing receiver.
Why receiver?
Because Nix is there for two more years at least. Davis coming in next year.
He won’t start but will definitely add depth to a position in need of experience.
Not sure why Caylin chose Auburn since he isn’t guaranteed playing time, but I’m not complaining. This is really big. Just wondering what role he’ll play for us.
Receiver
Is he really?
I’d rather take him as a Joey Gatewood figure in the offense.
Garrett is there too. Morris will not be running a 2 QB system either..
Garnet is A Freshman and inexperienced. At least Newton will have been tested on the field, all be it at Howard. He’ll be in the QB room at least at the beginning of the season.
We’ll see I guess. As a walk on he won’t get a ton of work over the scholarship guys unless he just stands out.
Pretty big age gap between him and Cam. Maybe a bonding thing between them? He could want a degree from Auburn or maybe want to be a Graduate Assistant next year at Auburn and this is a good way to get there. Who knows?
He is a graduate transfer which means he already has a degree. He also has 2 years of eligibility remaining so shouldn’t be a GA next year.
He can still get a degree from Auburn even though he has one from Howard. But you’re right I didn’t see the 2-year part in the story but I still think him being a GA is a possibility after the 2nd year.
He can’t beat Bo Nix out at Auburn! Auburn & Howard is not in the same universe
Well, Auburn is also not in the same Universe as Pinson Valley High School but that did not hurt Bo Nix?
It hurt Nix. He did much better in high school where the talent level is not nearly as good as a D1 power 5 team. The starters in D1 P5 are usually the best high school players so the overall talent level is much higher than in high school. Nix improved with each game so if they play college football this year, he should continue to improve, especially since Gus lets his QBs work with outside QB coaches.
Quick, find the bag men, they are out there. And check SKAM;he probably paid them to take him.
Big money for a walk on
Newton was a very good player on a bad team. Don’t discredit him as a player just cause it’s Howard. Little different style than Cam, but still I think could be a starter in the SEC.
Maybe he could start at Vandy, but that’s it.
I could see him in a Taysom Hill style role. In fact I would love to see that! Bring it on.
Sounds like a BOGO…
Buy one (Cam) get one free (Caylin)
agreed.
It said in 2018 he rushed for 504 yards but later says in 25 games at Howard he rushed for 380 yards. He must have been sacked a lot in his other year. Speaking of sacks, college football should handle sacks the same way as the NFL. Have sacks count against team passing yards instead of against the QB’s rushing yards. If they want it to be against the QB, it should be against his passing yards but since most sacks are due to poor blocking, it should be against team passing yards. It shouldn’t count as anything against the QB.
Just curious but doesn’t the QB get credit for rushing yards on a scramble? Other reasons for sacks is great downfield coverage, holding the ball to long and panicking while leaving the pocket early. A bad read in the pocket and moving into pressure instead of out of it also occurs. The rules also allow the QB to scramble and get rid of the ball to avoid the sack with not being called for intentional grounding as in the past. The QB makes the decision so he should be held accountable for his action. Blaming the line for all or most of the sacks is shortsighted and wrong.
Bo Nix is Auburn’s Quarterback. maybe the younger C. Newton wants to improve his educational opportunities…otherwise he won’t play at Auburn.
Receiver. He’s playing backup QB and receiver.
A BOGO with benefits…
Just like your wife also being your sister, Darrell.
So the Cam deal ended up being a two for one
The Newton family can (& will eventually) all burn in hell as far as I’m concerned. What a classless, toxic group of humans. Atleast Cam & his father. Let’s hope ‘Caylin’ doesn’t possess 1/4 of Cam’s character but you know what they say…The apple doesn’t, well you know. Cammy Cam still without a job in the NFL should serve testament to what his brother should NOT become. Just another Antonio brown, Terrell Owens but in QB form. Kelvin Benjamin thinks he’s an ass & terrible leader // his former coach Ron Rivera wouldn’t touch him with a 10 ft poll. New Carolina coaches would rather have an average Teddy Bridgewater as QB than a punk wearing dresses and Kentucky Derby hats. No, I’m not mad — God’s will & judgement will always hold the final determinant.
What a dumb post.
