Auburn bounced back from its loss to Georgia last week with a 53-0 win over Liberty on Saturday.

After the victory, Tigers coach Gus Malzahn praised his team’s performance. Auburn built a 32-point lead by halftime and had 53 points by the end of the third quarter.

“Our guys came out and took care of business,” Malzahn said during his postgame press conference. “I thought all three [phases] did a solid job tonight. It was good. … For us to play like we did, I thought that was important.”

It was the Tigers’ first shutout victory of the season.

“That was something that Coach [Kevin] Steele and the defensive players have been talking about all week,” Malzahn said.

Malzahn said he was pleased that the Tigers’ big lead allowed them to get more carries for freshman running back Asa Martin.

“I thought it was good that we got him some more carries today,” Malzahn said. “He just needs some more experience.”

Auburn will look to end the regular season on a positive note when it plays No. 1 Alabama in the Iron Bowl next Saturday.
