Cam Newton’s 2010 season with Auburn was one of the best seasons ever for a college quarterback. He led the Tigers to a national championship and a perfect record.

Gus Malzahn, Auburn’s current head coach, was the Tigers’ offensive coordinator in 2010, working closely with Newton to lead the Tigers to glory.

Now, it seems Newton’s time with the Carolina Panthers is over and he’s looking for a new squad for 2020 and beyond. On Wednesday, Malzahn offered his praise to Newton amid his free agency search:

Newton was the NFL’s MVP in 2015 and has been a Pro Bowler 3 times. He also won the Rookie of the Year award back in 2011.

Where will he end up? The New England Patriots suddenly need a quarterback after Tom Brady went to Tampa Bay. The Los Angeles Chargers also need to replace Philip Rivers, so we’ll see where Newton goes for 2020 and beyond.
