Hugh Freeze knows his team must move on quickly from a stunning loss to New Mexico State.

“About as disappointed as I’ve ever been in coaching with Saturday’s effort,” Freeze told reporters on Monday. “It was an embarrassment. It can’t happen like that and it starts with me. I have to get our coaches and players ready to play and I obviously missed the mark tremendously.”

“I’m ticked off. I hope they’re ticked off. We’ve got to learn from that, for sure,” Freeze added. “We’ve got to quickly turn the page.”

It’s a tough chapter to turn to with a No. 8-ranked Crimson Tide team that’s been rolling of late with 9 consecutive wins. Fresh off of a 66-10 blowout of Chattanooga, the Tide average 36.4 points and 405.3 total yards per game, and the defense hasn’t allowed more than 28 points in a game since a Sept. 3 loss to Texas, 34-24.

Freeze won’t excuse the Tigers’ rebuilding state as season for the last loss, which apologized “100 times” for already.  Auburn hasn’t beat a ranked team this season, but the Tigers gave No. 1 ranked Georgia a scare, 27-20, on September 30.

“The Auburn faithful have persevered through a lot of things and they show up…we expect to give you the best of ourselves come Saturday so we appreciate all the times you give us your best,” Freeze said.
