Hugh Freeze recently remarked that he’s going to miss playing Georgia every year during a recent press conference.

At the time, his statements were thought to be cryptic about the future of the SEC’s scheduling in the wake of Texas and Oklahoma soon joining the conference.

However, Freeze has since backtracked from his remarks. During another press conference, this time on Monday night in Mobile, Freeze insists he was merely making an analogy.

“I have no clue what’s going on with future schedules. That hasn’t come to the coaches at all. What I totally meant by that was there’s a lot of great rivalries in our conference,” Freeze said. “There’s new teams coming. I think it’s going to be an exciting brand of football for people to see Texas.”

Freeze claims that all he knows about Auburn’s slate is through next season.

“But should there be years where you’re not playing some? I’m sure that would be disappointing to some people from certain years. But I have no clue what the future scheduling is nor has it been discussed with us as coaches,” Freeze said. “I know what next year’s is and that’s as far as I know. I was using a hypothetical and I certainly hope everybody clears that up.”

Auburn (3-2) was narrowly defeated by longtime rival Georgia 27-20 in Week 5. Auburn will look to avoid a 3-game losing streak when they travel to take on No. 23 LSU after the bye week.
