When Tajh Boyd was the starting quarterback at Clemson from 2011 to 2013, Chad Morris was his offensive coordinator.

Now, as Morris enters his first season as the Auburn offensive coordinator, Boyd predicts a huge season from rising sophomore QB Bo Nix.

In a tweet sent on Monday, Boyd predicted 3,800 yards and 35 touchdowns for Nix in 2020. Based on Boyd’s production in 3 years as a starter under Morris, that’s definitely not out of the question. Here’s a look at how Boyd fared during his time at Clemson:

  • 2011: 3,828 yards, 33 touchdowns, 12 interceptions
  • 2012: 3,896 yards, 36 touchdowns, 13 interceptions
  • 2013: 3,851 yards, 34 touchdowns, 11 interceptions

That’s some remarkable consistency. Nix threw for 2,652 yards, 16 touchdowns and 6 interceptions as a freshman in 2019.

Morris has recently been given full control of the offense and play-calling duties, so we’ll see how he fares in Year 2 with his second offensive coordinator. Boyd clearly believes in the young Auburn quarterback’s ability to make a jump under Morris’s tutelage.
