No. 14 Auburn looks to rebound at home on Senior Day against FCS foe Samford.

Let’s take a look inside the numbers of Auburn’s matchup this week.

The Good

171: The number of rushing yards allowed by Samford. After Auburn totaled just 150 yards on the ground last week in Athens, it’s a welcome sign to face a lesser-talented team prone to giving up yards on the ground. Expect Nick Marshall and Cameron Artis-Payne to have a field day in the first half.

14: The number of Samford turnovers on the season. Look for the Tigers to get some takeaways defensively; over the past five weeks, Auburn has forced some turnovers at key moments. The defense needs to do the same on Saturday evening.

42: The percentage of third downs on which the Bulldogs are converting. Hidden by all of the vulnerabilities, Auburn actually held Georgia to under 50 percent on third downs last week. The Tigers need to get off the field, and not let Samford extend drives by converting third down chances, or by committing penalties to move the sticks.

The Bad

292: Georgia defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt had a great plan for the Tigers last week, and all Georgia did was hold Auburn to its lowest offensive output of the Gus Malzahn era. Don’t expect the starters to play long into the second half, but the Tigers need a big day offensively to put last week’s aberration behind them.

7: The number of penalties committed by Auburn last week. It was the Tigers’ third straight game with at least seven penalties, highly uncharacteristic for a Malzahn-coached team. Auburn has to cut down on penalties this week, and especially next week against Alabama.

3: The number of turnovers committed in last week’s loss. Auburn, all of a sudden, has become turnover-prone during the last five weeks. Ball security has been a huge issue, and a reason the Tigers are 2-3 in that stretch. Turnovers on Saturday evening will let Samford hang around, not something Auburn wants.
