Lawrence Johnson will end his career in the SEC after 5 seasons at Purdue. The former Boilermaker is headed to The Plains to play for Hugh Freeze.

Johnson announced his commitment to Auburn on social media.

At Purdue, Johnson played in 46 games. He took a redshirt for the 2018 season, playing in 1 game. The NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver for the 2020 season allows Johnson, a graduate student, to return for a sixth season in 2023.

In 2021, Johnson had the most tackles of his career with 34, including 23 solo stops and 4.5 TFLs with a sack. This season, Johnson helped Purdue to a Big Ten West title with 29 tackles, including 16 solo stops and 2.5 TFLs with 1.5 sacks. He played in all 14 games for Purdue, including the Citrus Bowl.

Freeze’s staff has been hot on the recruiting trail, picking up multiple commitments from high school prospects and transfers.
