The Auburn family suffered a tragedy this weekend when popular play-by-play broadcaster Rod Bramblett and his wife, Paula, were killed in a car accident.

Tributes have been pouring in the past couple of days, and on Monday, it was football coach Gus Malzahn’s turn.

Joining the SEC Today program on SiriusXM Radio, Malzahn said he always appreciated the way Bramblett perfectly chronicled both the good and bad moments over the years:

“Rod was the voice of Auburn athletics. He was the voice of baseball, basketball and football,” Malzahn said. “I’m just thinking about his professionalism and being able to work with him the past nine years, just the friendship we’d developed. He made such a great impact, not just on Auburn, but people outside Auburn. …

“He always had the right words, the right temperament, the right tone for the moment. I remember the good times — in 2013, the run we went on, just being able to experience that and his love and excitement for Auburn.”

Bramblett was a very popular guy in Auburn, and he and Paula will certainly be missed.
