Ron Roberts, a former Baylor defensive coordinator, has reportedly landed in the SEC after multiple programs made a run at hiring him.

Roberts is expected to become the new defensive coordinator at Auburn, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic and FOX Sports reported. His defense at Baylor led the Big 12 in run defense in 2021 and was No. 3 this year, BU led the conference in turnovers gained last year and was No. 4 this season.

Feldman added, “This was a really big win for Auburn. Arkansas was also trying to land Ron Roberts to run its defense.”

Roberts, who also coached inside linebackers, left Baylor after the Bears were 6-6 in a season in which they were picked to win the Big 12 by the media.

Roberts joined Dave Aranda at Baylor for the 2020 season following after 2 seasons as the defensive coordinator at Louisiana. Roberts’ 2021 Baylor defense led the Bears to a 12-win season and a Big 12 Championship, leading the conference in interceptions (19), turnovers gained (27), turnover margin (0.93) and defensive touchdowns (3), according to Sic ‘Em 365.

Before Louisiana, Roberts was the head coach as Southeastern Louisiana and led the Lions to 2 conference championships with a 42-29 overall record and a 35-14 Southland Conference mark.
