This past Saturday, it was announced by Auburn that former basketball great Charles Barkley would be receiving a statue in honor of his athletic achievements.

The statue will be built outside of Auburn Arena. It’s special for a number of reasons, including the fact Barkley will become the first non-football athlete (Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan, Cam Newton) to receive a statue on campus.

Barkley’s announcement was made during the middle of Auburn’s victory over Arkansas. A video was displayed on the big screen, and the announcement itself was made by Jackson.

The crowd went crazy in Jordan-Hare Stadium as Barkley stood on the field with the likes of Jackson, head basketball coach Bruce Pearl, and others.
