Spring games and spring scrimmages aren’t exactly the most-exciting brand of football, as coaches use them to develop players rather than put on a show.
So, it should come as no surprise that Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn described Saturday’s first scrimmage of the spring session as “pretty bland.”
However, everyone wants to know about Auburn’s quarterback battle, which is between four guys — Bo Nix, Joey Gatewood, Malik Willis and Cord Sandberg. After the scrimmage, here’s what Malzahn had to say about the quarterbacks:
Auburn HC Gus Malzahn: "The scrimmage was pretty bland, offensively and defensively, but that was by design."

Auburn HC Gus Malzahn said the quarterbacks "didn't take any big hits," and "everybody played" in today's scrimmage.

Auburn HC Gus Malzahn said the first spring scrimmage went 91 plays. All four quarterbacks — who, again, went live — got around 20 plays each.

It’s still early in the spring for the Tigers, so we’ll see how long it takes for Malzahn to start providing some actual updates on the competition.
For now, though, it’s still anyone’s job to win, and everyone is still seemingly getting equal reps.
