Auburn came up just short against Ole Miss Saturday night after the Rebels were able to hold off the Tigers in the second half.

Hugh Freeze put together a solid first half, but he couldn’t get his offense going until late in the 4th quarter, and it was too little, too late from the Tigers.

It was Auburn’s 4th straight loss, but looking forward at the schedule, the Tigers are still very capable of reaching bowl eligibility if they can notch a few more wins.

After the game, Freeze took responsibility and believes he can do a better job coaching his team.

“Disappointing. I think our kids played hard,” Freeze said in a postgame press conference. “I feel like we’ve got to coach them better, and that starts with me.”

Auburn’s struggles on 3rd and 4th down were prevalent in the game, and that has been an issue for the Tigers all season.

“We continue to lose the battles on third and fourth down, and that’s disappointing,” Freeze said.

Freeze is sticking with his 2 quarterback rotation with Robby Ashford and Payton Thorne, and when asked if he plans to change that, he said that the dual-quarterback system had nothing to do with the loss.

“I don’t think it had anything to do with the outcome of the game,” Freeze said. “It would be nice to have one (quarterback) for sure, but we’re searching to see what gives us the best avenue to win.”

But he did say that he’s still open to offensive changes after the struggles Auburn continues to have on offense.

“Everything is up for evaluation,” Freeze said. “It should be, with the numbers we’re putting up.”

Freeze is ready to get back to work after the loss. He wants his team to come back to practice ready to prepare for another SEC game, which will be against Mississippi State next week.

“The message is to come back to work Monday,” Freeze said. “We have a lot of SEC games left. Every SEC game is hard to win.”
