Paul Finebaum has found a coach more in trouble than Auburn’s Gus Malzahn, who he said last week was facing the possibility of receiving a huge contract buyout.

But following Ohio State’s loss at Purdue on Saturday, the SEC Network host was asked if it’s a fair question to question who stays longer, Auburn’s Gus Malzahn, or Ohio State’s Urban Meyer.

“It is a fair question and I think I’d go with Gus Malzahn,” Finebaum said on his weekly appearance on WJOX.

It’s worth point that both coaches had a dramatic turnaround in the opposite direction on Saturday, with Auburn beating Ole Miss, 31-16, and Ohio State falling at Purdue, 49-20.

“I’ve been suggesting that Urban Meyer has been done for a while because based on the bad marriage and based on body language, and admission by him that he is still struggling with some health issues,” he said. “Saturday night, he looked like the saddest man in America, and he probably was.”

For his part in the post-game after the Purdue loss, Meyer said the Boilermakers exposed the glaring shortcomings the Buckeyes had.

Now facing a new dose of adversity, Finebaum said it reminds him of Meyer’s exit from Florida.

“When you think about the potential of that program and that team, and where they are right now, it’s pretty scary,” Finebaum said. “I just don’t think Urban Meyer has the makeup to deal with much more adversity. I know it’s an easy thing to say, look at what happened in Florida, but it’s a precedent, and I think tht’s who Urban Meyer is. When things get tough, he runs away and quits.”
