One of the hot debates across college football on Saturday was whether previously unbeaten Notre Dame should be in the College Football Playoff despite losing to Clemson in the ACC Championship Game, 34-10.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said there was no debate in his mind.

“Absolutely Notre Dame deserves to be in because they’re daggum 10-1,” Swinney said, per Grace Raynor. “No way would I punish someone for playing more games. That’s what we seem to be doing. .. I don’t get that. Notre Dame should be in.”

Most of the debate centers on 6-0 Ohio State, along with one-loss Texas A&M and one-loss Notre Dame, and how to weigh losses to Alabama and Clemson.

The Aggies fell 52-24 at No. 1 Alabama on Oct. 3, and coach Jimbo Fisher has pointed out that it was when Alabama had Jaylen Waddle, one of its best receivers before his leg injury. They haven’t lost since, including a comeback against Florida the week after they lost to the Crimson Tide.

Notre Dame kept it close for a while before Clemson ran out to a 34-3 lead. A fourth-quarter touchdown made it a little more respectable.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly also stood up for his team.

“We’ve got two top-15 wins (including North Carolina). We’ve got a win over this Clemson team that was No. 1 in the country,” Kelly said. “I don’t know that anybody has a resume that has those two wins. And we’ve played 11 games. … I think that in my mind puts us without question as one of the top-four teams in the country”
