George Cole was a football coach at the University of Arkansas for 25 years from 1934-1958, but spent just one year as head coach in 1942, leading the Razorbacks to a 3-7 record including 0-6 in Southwestern Conference play. He also served four seasons as athletic director at Arkansas from 1970-1973. He passed away in 1978 at the age of 71.
A former newspaper reporter who has roamed the southeastern United States for years covering football and eating way too many barbecue ribs, if there is such a thing.
