Jack Mitchell coached for 17 seasons at the collegiate level from 1950-66, including three seasons at the University of Arkansas from 1955-57. Despite a .529 career win percentage Mitchell coached in just one bowl game during his career at the University of Kansas in 1961. In three seasons at Arkansas Mitchell was 17-12-1 and never finished better than fourth in the Southwest Conference. He passed away in 2009 at the age of 85.
A former newspaper reporter who has roamed the southeastern United States for years covering football and eating way too many barbecue ribs, if there is such a thing.
