Georgia fans may not have paid any attention to the news that Dallas fired its offensive coordinator on Friday but the removal of Scott Linehan could affect Kirby Smart’s program in a big way.

Following the departure of Jim Chaney to Tennessee last week, Smart promoted James Coley from his co-offensive coordinator role into the full-time OC job in Athens. That was only a week ago but already Coley is being mentioned as a possible candidate to make a big jump.

If Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is to be believed, Coley is one to watch for the new offensive coordinator role in Dallas. According to Rapoport, there is a feeling among some that the Cowboys want a coach with knowledge of college offenses in order to best utilize Dak Prescott’s ability.

Coley’s only ties to the NFL came back in 2005-06 when he served as a lower-level assistant with the Dolphins. Prior to landing in Athens, Coley has success coaching at Miami and Florida State.
