Steele’s expansive knowledge of defense includes over 30 years of coaching experience at major FBS programs and the NFL. An elite recruiter, Steele helped Florida State bring in several top classes in the mid 2000s under Bobby Bowden and recently led Clemson to its first ACC Championship since 1981 as the Tigers’ defensive coordinator.
Steele returned to Alabama a second time in 2013 as the Director of Player Personnel before making the transition to linebackers coach in 2014. Steele previously served on Nick Saban’s staff during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
Auburn hired Steele away from LSU for the 2016 season to replace Will Muschamp, who left for South Carolina.
