Fans, media troll UConn on social media after announcing Jim Mora as new head coach
UConn has found its new football coach, and it was a guy not many expected to be in the mix.
That would be former UCLA coach Jim Mora, who hasn’t coached since the Bruins fired him before the end of the 2017 season.
UConn made the hiring official on Thursday morning, sending out a tweet welcoming Mora to the program:
Welcome to UConn, Coach Mora! ?

Naturally, this decision to hire a guy who hasn’t been in the coaching ranks in nearly 5 years drew some raised eyebrows across the country.
As you can see below, fans and media members were confused by UConn’s choice for its next head coach. Here were some of the responses:
Say what now? https://t.co/xg3LK8ap1A

Why hire a young, unproven coach when you can hire someone who has a long and proven track record of being fair-to-middling? https://t.co/jq8AZV8MOG

What is wrong with these schools? Stop hiring failed retreads. You will stay bad forever…literally. https://t.co/M6VrJynYV9

Can Mora turn the UConn program around? That’ll be a tough task moving forward.
