Cumbie, who used to play quarterback for Texas Tech, was an assistant coach twice at Texas Tech and was about to be retained by new head coach Joey McGuire.
Louisiana Tech finished this season with a 3-9 overall record and a 2-6 conference record. Texas Tech has been known over the years to have one of the best offenses in the country.
The Red Raiders’ former head coaches include current Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach and former Texas Tech quarterback and now Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury.
The Bulldogs hope that Cumbie will bring that same offensive magic to their school next season.
