Tua Tagovailoa is one of the biggest NFL Draft storylines, but he isn’t the only former Alabama quarterback who will land with an NFL team as Jalen Hurts will almost certainly be drafted as well. We all know Tagovailoa is being talked about as a first-round pick, but what about his former teammate?

According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. is giving Hurts a fourth-round draft grade as a Taysom Hill-type gadget player. In three seasons with the New Orleans Saints, Hill has been used primarily as a ball-carrier and pass-catcher and has thrown just 13 passes. Despite the lack of passing from Hill, NFL insider Jay Glazer told Colin Cowherd last month that the Saints view Hill as the team’s “quarterback of the future.”

At last month’s Senior Bowl, Nick Saban shared that he would pitch Hurts to NFL teams as a mobile full-time quarterback similar to Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson:

“There’s a lot of guys playing in the NFL now that are having a lot of success that are similar style players to Jalen, guys that can make plays with their feet. I think you know who they are. I think the success of those players has kind of broken the stereotype of, you got to be a dropback passer and this is the only way you can win in the NFL. You see Mahomes, the guy in Baltimore, all these guys are athletic guys who make plays with their feet.”

Hurts finished his college career with his most productive season yet. At Oklahoma, the graduate transfer threw for 3,851 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushed for 1,298 yards and 20 touchdowns, leading the Sooners to the College Football Playoff.
