Nick Saban and Rece Davis joined the rest of the College GameDay crew in Berkeley for Week 6.

However, Saban and Davis didn’t get the memo that Cal fans don’t like the color red. Cal’s biggest rival is Stanford, so the fans in Berkeley weren’t thrilled that the GameDay hosts were wearing red ties.

Davis was the first to be targeted by the crowd. Kirk Herbstreit joked that Davis was wearing a “Stanford” tie, which caused the fans in attendance to chant “Take it off” at Davis.

Davis happily obliged, and waved the tie over his head to a cheering crowd.

A little while later, the crowd noticed that Saban also had a red tie on.

Saban also took the tie off and waved it around to the applause of fans. Saban’s co-host Pat McAfee brought the legendary coach a Cal-colored tie to wear instead. The crowd loved to see Saban wearing a blue and gold tie as opposed to his normal Crimson color.

Cal fans have shocked the college football world on Saturday. Berkeley is not among the top cities people associate with strong football fanbases, but the crowd showed up in large numbers for their first College GameDay.

Now, the team will need to show up after the fans did their part. The Bears will kick off against the No. 8 Miami Hurricanes from California Memorial Stadium at 10:30 p.m. ET.
