Arizona State has a new starting QB, and it is former Florida Gators QB Emory Jones.

The former Gator announced his intent to transfer back in May. On Thursday, ASU announced Jones as the starting QB:

This isn’t Jones’ first experience with switching teams. The 4-star recruit committed to play for Ohio State before decommitting. He also turned down offers from Clemson and Tennessee to eventually sign to play at Florida. Jones mostly served as a backup to starter Kyle Trask until gaining the opportunity to start in 2021.

He may be new to Arizona, but Jones’ experience in the SEC is proving invaluable. Despite being the only QB absent from spring practice in Tempe, Jones beat out Alabama transfer Paul Tyson and returning redshirt junior Trenton Bourguet for the starting QB role. Coaches have noted “Throughout fall camp, Jones has been noticeably head and shoulders better than the rest of ASU’s quarterbacks from an arm strength, accuracy and poise-under-pressure standpoint.”
