Billy Napier was more worried with commitments instead of losses after the recent Early Signing Day struggles at Florida.

Florida lost the commitments of linebacker Adarius Hayes and defensive lineman Amaris Williams on Wednesday. Florida also had DL Nasir Johnson and defensive back Xavier Filsaime decommitment days before the Early Signing Period.

Napier was asked for his thoughts on the decommitments at DL and DB at Wednesday’s presser. The program fired its coaches for those positions, Sean Spencer and Corey Raymond, at the conclusion of the regular season.

The Florida head coach admitted that the firing of those position coaches definitely had an impact on the class, but that it wasn’t the whole story.

“I don’t think we lost players at that position. Filsaime, I think that was in the works prior to making that change,” said Napier. “I do think we were able to get commitments at those positions as well. … Ultimately, the position coach a part of the equation but it’s not the end all be all. I think this cycle will prove that.”

Florida currently has the 8th-ranked 2024 class in the SEC and 14th overall, per 247Sports. Napier acknowledged the recent drop, however he was more focused on the players who committed to the program.

“I think you see it all across the country. I think down to the finish line, there’s an element to recruiting, it’s a battle. There’s no question about it. We’re here today to talk about the players that we got, and we got some elite players. We have young men that were up for the challenge,” said Napier. “Some weren’t up for the challenge, but this group that we’re here to talk about and celebrate today decided, ‘You know what? I believe in what’s happening there.'”
