After a huge win over Tennessee a week ago, Florida had an underwhelming performance against Charlotte on Saturday.

The Gators looked undisciplined and unprepared in the game, perhaps overlooking the 49ers as they thought ahead to Kentucky next week. While it got the win, Florida will have to have a better performance next week against the Wildcats as the Gators look to stay perfect in SEC play.

Regardless of the subpar performance, Gators head coach Billy Napier was satisfied with a win.

At several points in the game, Florida had just 10 players on the field on special teams’ plays. A questionable method, Napier said he was fine with not having a returner back on one of the punts.

Micah Mazzccua, who didn’t play the first half because of an SEC-mandated suspension from the last-second scuffle against Tennessee, did not see the field in the second half. Napier explained his absence in a postgame press conference, saying that Mazzccua was serving an in-house suspension.

One area where Florida struggled was the redzone. While Napier was satisfied with the way his team moved down the field, he wants to see his team get the ball in the endzone consistently.

“We moved the football,” Napier said. “We have to have better red zone production.”

A 22-7 win against a non-Power 5 team doesn’t look pretty on paper, but at the end of the day, Napier is happy to leave the week 3-1 and ready to get better.

“Half the teams in college football lost and the Gators won,” Napier said. “Are we happy with a lot of the things that went on out there? No.”
