One of the most experienced quarterbacks in the SEC is Florida’s Kyle Trask. So it’s understandable that he is in a good position with his coaching staff.

Coach Dan Mullen on Tuesday described how Trask has come along this preseason, and after a scrimmage on Monday.

“I don’t think it was one of his best days,” Mullen said, per Edgar Thompson, but added that Trask’s decision-making, leadership and ability to handle more has stood out during camp. “He has really improved the speed of how he decides things.”

Likely because of that, Mullen said Trask will be more involved in the game plan development this season. Trask will also have more freedom to call his own plays, or check plays at the line of scrimmage.

The Manvel, Texas native is one reason why Florida is a somewhat trendy pick to knock off Georgia and win the SEC East.

Last year, he led the Gators to an 11-2 record, and completed 66.9 percent of his passes for 2,941 yards, 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions. After he took over for the injured Feleipe Franks, Trask capped a storybook junior season by throwing for 305 yards in the Orange Bowl win over Virginia.

The redshirt senior even announced before last year’s Florida State game that he would return for this season.
