On Monday, former Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen was officially announced as Florida’s head coach and went through his first press conference as a member of the university.

The former Florida offensive coordinator during the Urban Meyer era, Mullen will reportedly make $36 million over the next six years — or $6 million annually.

But what about his buyout? Well, if the Gators want to get out from under Mullen’s contract in the future, they’ll have to pay a hefty $12 million penalty:

Meanwhile, Mullen would only have to pay $2 million if he wants to leave. While that’s not exactly a small price to pay, he could still pay it if a better opportunity (what would that possibly be?) comes along.

However, less than 48 hours into the Mullen era in Gainesville, nobody is thinking of buyouts just yet. Fans are hoping the talented coach can do what he did at Mississippi State and quickly return the Gators to national prominence.

If he does that, he’ll be in line for a raise instead of getting fired.
